Recovering from retina surgery can raise many questions, especially about comfort, positioning, and follow-up care. In this video, Dr. Tirso Lara explains what patients can expect after retina surgery, including post-operative positioning, normal symptoms during recovery, pain management, and the importance of follow-up visits. This overview is designed to help you feel informed, prepared, and confident during your recovery.
Hi, this is Dr. Tirso Lara here to talk to you a little bit about what to expect after your retina surgery.
There are multiple surgeries, but the most common one is epitractomy.
So number one, after the surgery, I will come out to talk to you and tell you how the surgery went. And one of the more important things is that some patients require some post-operative positioning — sometimes face down, sometimes on your side, sometimes with your head elevated. It really depends on your particular problem and the diagnosis. So your doctor will come out and will tell you what to do.
Second, surgeries with us are not typically painful. People feel irritation and burning and the feeling that you have something in your eye, but that’s pretty much about it. Typically, Tylenol or Motrin is more than enough.
And lastly, make sure you take your eye drops as recommended. We will also see you the next day, so make sure that you come for your follow-up.
And of course, if you have any questions, any issues, any concerns or pain or anything, please call us at our number.
And good luck, and hope to see you soon.
