Dry eye disease is a common condition that can cause ongoing discomfort, irritation, and fluctuating vision if left untreated. In this video, Dr. Lisa Galluzzo explains what dry eye disease is, why it happens, and the range of treatment options available—from simple lifestyle changes to advanced in-office therapies. Understanding the underlying cause of dry eye is the first step toward finding lasting relief.

Hi, I’m Dr. Lisa Galluzzo. If your eyes often feel dry, gritty or irritated, you may be dealing with dry eye disease. Dry eye happens when your eyes don’t produce enough tears or when those tears evaporate too quickly. If left untreated, it can cause discomfort or even damage to the surface of your eye.

There are a variety of treatment options for dry eye at Fort Lauderdale Eye Institute. For example, for milder cases, we might start with over-the-counter artificial tears, eye hygiene, and lifestyle adjustments, reducing fan or air-vent exposure, and blinking more when on the computer.

If your condition involves reduced tear production or more serious gland dysfunction, we offer more advanced treatments like prescription drops, insertion of tiny plugs into the tear-drainage ducts (punctal plugs), and even procedures such as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy, which treats inflammation of the eyelids and meibomian glands.

If you’ve been struggling with dryness, burning, or fluctuating vision, schedule a consultation today so we can identify the underlying cause and create a personalised plan to help you get back to seeing and feeling your best.
