A spooky holiday is upon us and although it is an event that requires playful costumes, trick or treat, and parties, it is crucial to understand the safety behind it. As tempting as it may be to complete the ghoulish ensemble, avoid costume features that fully or partially obstruct your vision. Sharper props such as wands or swords that may harm other children’s eyes should also be avoided. Below are some helpful tips that will set you up for a Spooktacular Halloween.
*Begin Trick or Treating earlier on in the day, around 5-5:30.
*Bring a flashlight so paths are clearly lit, they also ensure children are more visible to drivers.
*Ensure costumes are bright to increase their visibility to others.
*Younger trick-or-treaters should be constantly supervised, and the older children should follow closely behind to help guide them.
*Be careful when using decorative contact lenses, they are medical devices that can cause vision impairment if used improperly.
*Continue to obey traffic laws as a pedestrian or driver.
*Don’t allow children to roller skate, skateboard, or ride bike while in their costumes.
*Use makeup with care and have wipes ready to clean your child’s face should it begin to melt and run down their face.
