Project Description

When it is time to consider an intraocular lens, or IOL, patients with astigmatism have multiple options to choose from. Astigmatism means the cornea, or clear outer surface of the eye, is not perfectly round – causing blurry or distorted vision.

Toric IOLs replace the cloudy lens caused by cataracts while also compensating for the irregular shape of the cornea due to astigmatism. This results in clearer vision at one or more distances, and could reduce your need for glasses. When choosing a toric IOL, it is important to consider your lifestyle. The most common Toric IOL is a single vision IOL. This option is typically the least expensive, and can provide you clearer vision at one distance, say near or far, but you will still need glasses for some tasks. More advanced Toric IOL options are available which can give you a longer range of clear vision.

Advanced IOLs can be designed to give you clear vision at two to three zones (near, intermediate, and far) without the need for glasses. It is important to discuss these options with your eye doctor to find out which IOL fits your lifestyle and ocular health. After replacing the cloudy lens with an astigmatism correcting toric IOL, you will notice significant improvement in your vision and a reduced need for glasses.

We will work with you, and together we will find the best toric IOL for your visual needs.
