Tirso Mark Lara, M.D.

Dr. Lara is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology as a retina and vitreoretinal surgeon, and he is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Ocular Trauma, and the American Society of Retinal Specialists. Dr. Lara is also a member of the Florida Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Broward County Ophthalmological Society.

Dr. Lara graduated from LaSalle University School of Medicine. He then completed a surgical research fellowship at Harvard Medical School and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. During this time, he was the recipient of the National Research Service Grant Award from the National Institute of Health (NIH). He also received the Society of Black Academic Surgeons (SBAS) grant award to support research.

Dr. Lara continued his residency at Vanderbilt University Department of Ophthalmology in Nashville, Tennessee after completing a surgical internship at the University of Illinois Chicago. He furthered his studies with a two-year fellowship in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Retina Specialist of Alabama.

Currently, Dr. Lara teaches students and residents as a Clinical Assistant Professor for the NOVA Southeastern University, College of Medicine. He also teaches students and residents as a Clinical Instructor for the NOVA Southeastern University School of Optometry. He has published many articles in prestigious peer-reviewed journals and is an active investigator for a number of FDA-approved clinical studies.

He is fluent in English and Spanish and continues to travel to underserved communities in Central America to donate his services. He is dedicated to providing the highest level of eye health services to his patients.
